Wellness in Amed, Bali: Build Your Own Wellness Escape
Wellness in Amed, Bali: Build Your Own Wellness Escape
Written by Candi Potgieter, Founder of Amed Concierge
Amed offers many ways to experience wellness. You can shape your stay around what you need — from yoga, massage and healthy food to time in the ocean, cultural experiences or simply a quieter day.
These individual experiences can form a flexible wellness stay, complement one of Amed’s established retreat programmes or simply add a little more balance to your holiday.
For me, wellness starts with self-care and paying attention to what your body and mind need.
START WITH WHAT YOUR BODY NEEDS
Amed has a varied wellness community, with established retreats, experienced practitioners and individual activities available throughout the area.
You can begin the morning with yoga in an open-air shala surrounded by tropical greenery, book a Balinese massage or facial, arrange a mobile massage at your villa, or explore practices such as acupuncture, Chinese medicine, sound healing, breathwork and other forms of bodywork.
The important part is finding an experience that suits what you are looking for and understanding what is included before you book. At Amed Concierge, we ask guests whether they are interested in relaxation, movement, a gentle yoga class, bodywork or simply some time to themselves. We can then help connect them with suitable local options.
Food fits naturally into this too. Around Amed, you will find plant-based choices, fresh juices and cafés where eating well can become an enjoyable part of your stay. If your version of feeling good involves the gym or a game of pickleball rather than a yoga mat, that counts too.
WELLNESS CAN BE IN THE WATER
The ocean is a significant part of life in Amed and, for me, one of the easiest ways to reset.
When I need it, I will take my mask and fins and go for a snorkel. On other days, it might be yoga, an early walk in the hills, reading a book in the sun or sitting down for coffee and unexpectedly connecting with someone.
Visitors can also explore freediving, snorkelling or workshops that incorporate breathing, movement and awareness in the water.
Those interested in Bali’s cultural and spiritual traditions may choose to experience a melukat, a traditional Balinese water purification ceremony. This should always be approached respectfully and arranged with appropriate local guidance.
You can choose the experiences that interest you while leaving enough space in your day to rest and enjoy Amed at your own pace.
ADD CULTURE, CREATIVITY AND GOOD FOOD
Wellness can also include creativity, learning and a meaningful connection with the place you are visiting.
A Balinese cooking class gives you an opportunity to learn about local ingredients, techniques and food culture. You can also spend time with local artisans and discover traditional weaving, painting and other crafts.
These experiences offer another way to connect with East Bali and learn more about the culture and community around you.
There are sunrise walks in the hills, sunset trips on the water and plenty of opportunities to spend time outdoors. Amed is also a small community, so a class, café or workshop can naturally become somewhere to meet people — particularly useful when travelling solo.
BUILD YOUR OWN WELLNESS STAY IN AMED
Amed is home to a range of established wellness retreats, courses and experienced practitioners. Some visitors choose an immersive programme, while others combine individual wellness experiences with the rest of their holiday.
You might book yoga in the morning and a massage later, then spend the next day snorkelling, taking a cooking class, visiting local artisans or leaving time completely open. Amed gives you the flexibility to create a balance that suits you.
Through Amed Concierge, we help guests explore trusted wellness practitioners and local activities based on their interests. You do not need to be staying at a particular hotel or villa to ask us for assistance. If you are staying in Amed and would like to experience more of the area, that is exactly what we are here for.
We can also arrange a wellness day in Sidemen with private transport if you would like to combine Amed’s coastline with the rice fields and mountain landscape of East Bali.
The aim is not to fit every version of wellness into one holiday. It is to have good options available and the freedom to choose what feels right for you.
Sometimes that might be a treatment, retreat session or yoga class. On another day, it could be salt water, a walk before breakfast, something nourishing to eat and nowhere you urgently need to be next.
